Growing Pumpkins
Pumpkins are easy to grow and require very little attention.

Pumpkins should be planted around the 2nd week of April. Pumpkins will grow on vines lying on the ground bearing large rough leaves with yellow flowers. The plants require a rich earth (add fertilizer if necessary), water and sun to mature. They will require a lot of space to spread out. Try to keep the pumpkins off the ground; this will help prevent them from rotting. Possibly use wooden planks to keep them from touching the ground. They will be ready to harvest when the fruit reaches a deep orange with hard rinds and the vine is beginning to whither. The season for harvesting is typically the last week in September or early October.

Pumpkins can be kept for many months as long as the skin has not been cut and they are kept in a cool dry location.
